Tilt Toward the Sun
2018
vinyl rain curtain, fluorescent paint
site-sensitive installation: MINUS SPACE, Brooklyn, NY
This exuberant installation responded directly to the vibrancy of the gallery’s location in a castle-like former horse stable nestled between the spans of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. Using my signature materials of undulating vinyl rain curtain juxtaposed against graphically painted walls, the installation filled both of the gallery’s two oversized windows facing Water Street with a layered, highly-saturated color experience that merges installation, sculpture, and painting. Tilt Toward the Sun responded directly to the cadence of the window’s gridded mullions and shifting natural daylight, advancing my decades-long exploration of the interaction of color, light, and material.
